Discover the rich history of Quarter KZ Ranch, a family-owned business with a legacy of a 100 years of Quarter Horse breeding. It all started with one of the first mares my Grandpa Smith owned, by the name of Bald Knight. SmytsBaldDeckStreak "Lena" is our 100 year filly and she proudly carries the name in hers. Smyts (what all the old cowboys called my Grandpa Smith), Bald (for Bald Knight), Deck (for Grandpa Smiths stud, a son of Top Deck), Streak (for what became one of Grandpa Smiths favorite mares). Grandpa grew this lineage by breeding to some of the best stallions in the industry and went on to own a Top Deck stallion that set this lineage apart from the others. This lineage is full of Hall of Fame sires and dams. Grandpa sold horses that went all over the world, in numerous different arenas; ranching, rodeo, hunter/jumper, dressage, mounted police to name a few. In 1984, Grandpa passed away, at that time my Uncle Kinney took over. Uncle Kinney went on to produce outstanding ranch and roping stock and building another branch of our lineage that is some of the most versatile, sweet mannered, trainable, talented horses around. Grandpa and Uncle Kinney produced some of the most versatile performance horses around. So very blessed to have learned so much from my Grandpa and to still be able to take in all the knowledge I can from Uncle Kinney.
Jump to the present and my turn in line with the lineage.... A year and a half ago my husband and I packed up everything we had and left out on the road from Florida headed to Oklahoma, headed home here to the Quarter KZ! I grew up riding, snubbing horses feeding, haying and working cattle along side Grandpa on the big ranch in Welch, Oklahoma. Us kids always had so much fun rather we were riding or catching crickets to go fishing, but we also learned how to work hard. To me carrying on this legacy is so much more than raising horses and meat, it is a way of life and family values that we want to pass down to our kids and grandkids for generations to come. The grandkids and cousins all love coming to the ranch. They learn hard work, how to take care of the animals, learn to make and/or eat homemade biscuits and chocolate syrup, LOL, but most of all how to be kids and have fun! Hard work, perseverance, determination and passion is what drives us here at the Quarter KZ.
Taking on a new era, but instilling the past. A lot of time and research has gone into preserving and growing this breeding program. Here at the Quarter KZ we strive to maintain size, intelligence, foundation lineage, versatility, outstanding composition, trainability, athleticism and speed! We have teamed up with some of the most elite breeding programs in the country for our 2025 foal crop. These foals will be loaded with incentives eligibility and COLOR! We look to put our horses in all arenas, roping, cutting, ranch versatility, barrels, everyday ranching. Most of all create quality, sound horses that our grandkids can get on! The goal is to put the Quarter KZ on the big stage! We are very excited to show the world what Quarter KZ horses are made of!
We have also teamed up with an absolutely outstanding young trainer, by the name of Tanner Scott. Tanner and his wife Kassandra are the proud owners of Scott Equine Services in Stuart, Oklahoma, as well as the parents of two beautiful little girls. They handle all of our training and stallion management. Tanner and Kassandra are quickly making a name for themselves in the horse training arena. The Quarter KZ is very excited and blessed with this partnership and have very warmly welcomed them as a part of the Quarter KZ family. On another note....not only does Kassandra help Tanner with the horses, she is also a very talented photographer and gets the credit for a lot of the pictures and videos you will be seeing on the site.
Our love for the land and the animals is what sets us apart. For three generations, our family has been ranching in Northeast Oklahoma, Cherokee Nation. Here at the Quarter KZ we don't just raise outstanding horses. We also pride ourselves in raising outstanding home bred and grown prime beef and ranch raised pork. Our love for the land, the animals and our customers is what drives us every day. Our goal is to continue to build on my Grandpa Smith's and Uncle Kinney's legacy by continuing to improve our performance horse lineage and continue bringing you top quality beef and pork.
We greatly appreciate you taking the time to visit our site!
Thank you and God Bless from all of us here at the Quarter KZ.....
